There are plenty of UFO documentaries, but this one tells it straight, in superior chronological order, gets to the issues, and as such is an indispensible introduction to the subject. The testimonies of Jesse Marcel and Philip J. Corso are especially compelling because they were military brass who kept their secrecy oaths until advance the ruin of their lives. Traditional Astronaut and moonwalker Edgar Mitchell is convinced extraterrestrial intelligences are visiting our planetary system.

This documentary is a well needed corrective to the debunking propoganda of mainstream media (the Peter Jennings ABC special, for example) that passes for “unbiased” analysis. Perhaps if PBS or ABC aired this documentary in prime time people might inaugurate to wonder. But that is never going to happen.

Decent production with interviews from leading UFO researchers plus some of the last footage of the gradual Col. Corso, author of: The Day After Roswell.

I can’t add anything to the praise for this film. If you fancy Disney films, this is considered one of the classics. I fair wish to briefly comment on the criticism of the lack of a widescreen version. The first widescreen film, The King and I, was released in 1956. Previous to this all films were corpulent cover. Peter Pan, released in 1953, and a righteous many of the Disney classics are only available in fat hide aspect. This is not the Pan and Scan alteration of an novel Widescreen format. The contrivance this film is presented on the DVD is the unique aspect ratio; Nothing has been altered. I have seen this so called criticism leveled against many Hollywood classics such as Casablanca, Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz. Please, salvage off your high horse and cessation whinning about how Disney or whatever movie company is ripping you off. None of these films ever had a widescreen version to originate with. Do a minute research and you could be teach to luxuriate in these classics in the aspect ratio they were orginally presented in. Thats all I wish to say.

The children in the Darling family adore account about Peter Pan. So naturally when he shows up one night looking for his missing shadow, they’re thrilled to go succor with him to Never Land. There, they face Indians and “the world’s most illustrious crook,” Captain Hook. Will they survive their adventures with the boy who never wants to grow up?

I have always had a fascination with this memoir. As a kid I remember checking the Disney record book version out of the library week after week. When I finally got to search for it, I was enthralled. There is fair something magical about the myth. It’s partially the coming together of all the boyhood adventures in one spot. Mermaids, Indians, and Pirates? What more could any boy want? And, of course, the ability to hover. The “You can flit” sequence over London is one of my all time favorites. The whole movie really is intelligent very well with a tale that movies mercurial from residence to state with lots of humor to maintain everyone entertained and graceful animation of the fanciful Never Land.

This special edition is worth tracking down. The record (recent plump frame) is exciting and the surround sound is very nice. Extras include a documentary on the making of the movie and a promotional theatrical featurette from the current release. The “audio commentary” is unusual. Hosted by Roy Disney, it consists of selections from interviews of the verbalize talent, live action models, animators, and animation historians. While not your usual commentary, it’s engrossing stuff and well worth a listen. Finally, there’s a admire hunt game and DVD storybook for kids.

This movie mild brings a smile to my face and probably always will. Maybe my friends are correct when they say I fancy this movie so considerable because I always wanted to be Peter Pan.

If you’ve enjoyed the series so far, and have grown rather fond of Gatsu and the band of Hawks, TURN AWAY NOW. Pretend this last edition does not exist, the ending will beget you regret you ever started watching this series.

Throughout the whole series you gain passe to having the main character Gatsu be downright invincible, but apparently he’s nothing without his sword, because the moment he loses ahold of it, all he holds dear is defiled and taken away from him. Heck I like violence as worthy as the next guy, but when you sight characters you’ve grown fond of being slaughtered in the WORST POSSIBLE Intention by demons, begging for succor while being devoured alive….well…I for one was seriously unnerved. Adding insult to injury, Gatsu lives on, but you never peek him avenge the deaths of all his friends, you honest explore him days later, all healed up, as he’s leaving Godo’s home, armed with the DragonSlayer (if he had that in that previous battle, this would have been a different review), “don’t regain killed” he’s told by Godo…and that’s it, you’re left to continue the series by ordering the books. I know I felt like throwing myself or someone out the window due to sheer frustruation. Collected might.

This is fair the middle of the precise series, and there’s no effect of the rest being interesting, so unless you want to launch buying the books on it, or looking for it online thanks to the fans who scan the pages, turn away now. You’ve been warned.

Been reading all these reviews of Berserk and as an avid fan of the Berserk series, I unbiased plan I should account for a few points. The first thing is that Berserk, the animation is based on an ONGOING amusing book and by no means should anyone contemplate that the animation is the “conclusion” to the Berserk Series. In fact, the animation covers (loosely) books 1 through 13 on the laughable series and currently the laughable book is at book 26. In other words, the animation really does demolish prematurely.

For many of you don’t have the luxury of reading the series and unbiased lively to know what happens, I will write a swiftly synposis of the rest of the yarn to date (WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD) .

2. Casca become insane and also gives birth a demon child.

3. Guts leaves Casca and goes on a hunt for the all the disciples of the God Hand.

5. He quests out to gain her and saves her from a mideval type of Inquisition.

6. Griffith returns in human obtain and forms of a reach Falcon Army veteran to defend the Midland from these current invaders.
7. Guts teams up with a young witch, insane Casca, a frail inquisitor and her bodyguard to hunt down more disciples.
8. Most recently, Guts is superpowered up as he receives an enchanted armor of the dwarves that makes him arrive superhuman.

I contemplate that is about it. No matter what the animation will never do the comics justice fair based on the adult nature of the comics. Anyways, I hope this helps some people.

Once again, Disney misses the heed with an gross DVD release. Why do we crave seeing our celebrated stars on DVD? Represent clarity, extra features, restored prints, optional commentary… none of which are evident on this unpleasant release of a astounding Hayley Mills film. Disney’s inexplicable inconsistency becomes evident when abominable efforts such as this one are compared to stellar, awe-inspired efforts such as “The Parent Trap” and “Pollyanna”, multi-disk sets released with quality and features on par with Criterion Collection releases. I give up on buying Disney. Next time, I’m going to rent the DVD first. Why destroy money on unusual Disney DVD’s that are wicked in quality to the VHS versions I already have! Hey Disney, wake up!

UPDATE: The web dwelling did not let me change the stars so support in mind the DVD is 1 star and the movie itself is 4 stars.

FILM REVIEW 4 stars

First off this is a amazing movie, and very modern in its graceful Island setting of Crete. It is a fun mystery. Directed by James Neilson, produced by Bill Anderson. Released in theatres in 1964, it starred Hayley Mills, Eli Wallach, Joan Greenwood, and Peter McErney. It is the mercurial paced myth of two tourists that accidently tangle with some murderous jewel thieves. Hayley plays Nikky, on vacation with her Aunt Frances in a diminutive Greek fishing village. They quit at a remote sleepy petite inn, and brand that a dashing young man that Nikky is falling for from England suddenly dissappears. Romance, drama, mystery, action, and humor are in this film. The actors all work hard to execute the film believable and do a spacious job. Pola Negri who had not made a film in 20 years was convinced to approach out of retirement, and does a amazing job as the treacherous Madame Habib. She lives on a yacht and has a cheetah on a leash for a pet. Young MCEnery went on to appear in “the Fighting Prince of Donegal” for Disney.

There is some fine cultural stuff, the greek wedding dancers costumes were from a musuem, and the dancers were local professionals. Filming on residence, Disney spent a fortune rebuilding the village that had been ravaged by WWII. They traditional 25,000 feet of toddle and 2,000 sheets of plywood. The epic was taken from a book by Mary Stewart, suggested to become a movie by Mrs. Lillian Disney, but the finished film is sparkling far from it’s modern sage. Top-notch mucical acquire by Ron Grainer, title song written by Terry Gilkyson.

It eventually aired on “the Astounding World of Disney”, in 1966, ‘67, and ‘82. It even aired in 1975 in conjunction with the “Saturday Night at the Movies with Disney” specials. Released on video the first time time in 1985. If you like Disney films of the period, you will appreciate this one too. It is nice to ogle Hayley Mills in her more outmoded role.

I bought it as a gift for Christmas because it was on the list my sister gave me. She was very tickled to net it, but seemed disappointed that it was only one disc with 6 episodes. I was stupefied to launch it when it arrived to behold that I had paid $25 for one disc. But if someone really wants it, I guess what else are you going to do? As a gift, I probably would have opted for a gift that gave a puny more for my money.

I pronounce you what…earn this if you’re a fan of the Hulk alone. That in itself is reason enough to seek this movie. I have forever loved all that the Hulk represents and how he rolls. But he about lost his mind in this movie! I loved it!!! Beyond that, well-behaved site, heavenly fantasy cartoon babes abound, and as a Marine, I appreciated how Captain America and the military were portrayed as they went into battle against Nazis and dwelling aliens in WWII. C,mon…location aliens, dream babes, Nazis, and the Hulk…what’re you waiting for? Relax the literary critic inside you and have some fun. Go. Rent.

Most agree that the tale was poor for this appealing release. I personally contemplate portion 1 was bearable, but 2 was cessation to unwatchable. What I DO however like about this release, is the quality Bluray brings. Those who train you animation wont be enhanced by hi def? Display them this. Crisp lines, and solid colors all around. Very impressive to glance visually. And the sound was amazing. I only consume the two speakers on my TV, but the sound that came out of this release was mild lovely unbelievable, leaps and bounds over my regular DVDs.

This area contains an absolute GEM…which is the 2 disc THE Colossal Traipse from 1930(the 2008 Widescreen edition) and three lesser 1960’s era Wayne colour widescreen films. The Gargantuan Stagger is a must have for western, film or wayne fans and the three others are certainly fun later Wayne films that don’t add distinguished label to the package. I should add that earlier editions of these three films had nice / fun featurettes that have been elminated from this offering ..so if you have them I’d pick up the unusual Tall Wander on its occupy.

John Wayne didn’t really tame the wild, wild west; it impartial seems like he did. The man is larger than life and about as iconic as it gets. JOHN WAYNE - THE FOX WESTERNS doesn’t advance cessation to showcasing his best films, with two of the four - THE COMANCHEROS and THE UNDEFEATED - being merely passable fare. However, a third entry NORTH TO ALASKA is a good-natured, rollicking film, while THE Titanic Lunge is a itsy-bitsy known but historically momentous cinematic gem.

Plenty to say about THE Mammoth Move. Assist in 1930, Marion Morrison was 23 years primitive and working as prop man on the movie lot when legendary director Raoul Walsh saw him and took an big chance. Marion’s name was changed to John Wayne, and he was given the lead in Walsh’s ambitious, sweeping western tale THE Enormous Lunge. Notice that even though director John Ford had already planted Wayne in several films, it was as an extra. Wayne was very raw here, in his first starring role; but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t favorable.

In THE Colossal Stride John Wayne plays Breck Coleman, a scout who guides a wagon deny of settlers 2500 miles, from the Mississippi banks thru the western wilderness to a remote valley beyond Oregon. All the while Coleman attempts to ferret out his best friend’s killers; he even finds time to romance the glowing pioneer girl Ruth (Marguerite Churchill) . One of the early talkies, this film is unruffled relevant today and contemporary enough in its sensibilities that you derive caught up in the chronicle, which is inviting and though-provoking and at times comical (I quite enjoyed the “Looks like barrels grow on trees around here.” sequence) . Even wait on then, most of the characters were already cliched, yet the sound performances pull it off - the shifty Southern “gentleman” who strives to tempt Ruth with talks of his plantation in Louisiana; the dirty, no-good have of a journey boss (Tyrone Power’s dad, by the map) ; Zeke, Coleman’s grizzled sidekick; the good-natured settler with the Swedish accent, brought in for rude funny relief and constantly bullied by his brutish mother-in-law. As Breck Coleman, John Wayne looks dashing in his buckskin outfit. His acting is glowing first-rate, even if the script calls for him to construct stilted speeches. When the settlers were wont to turn aid, here’s Wayne: “No, you’re not! We can’t turn relieve! We’re blazing a fling that started in England…” Even Duke’s natural acting style can’t invent that speech sound off-the-cuff. It’s also though-provoking to mark that, in his first Western starring role, John Wayne’s significant weapon is a knife, not a gun.

Buy,Download, Or Stream John Wayne: The Fox Westerns Collection! Click Here

Filmed in 1930, THE Broad Tear reportedly cost around 2 million to produce, and it shows in the product. This is an age-old western story: “Prairie schooners rolling west. Praying for peace - but ready for battle.” The film depicts these hardy settlers enduring backbreaking hardships and privations as they face murderous climates, unforgiving landscapes, Indian attacks, and dearth of water. This film offers gigantic spectacle and is as remarkable about the presentation of the frontier lands as it is the people. We are treated to several awesome sights here, as the caravan navigates risky terrain and fords treacherous waters. There are shameful losses, of human casualties and ruined covered wagons smashing against the face of the steep cliffs or being swept away like leaves on a raging river. Also worth taking in is the circle of wagons shootout with the Indians. In its sheer panoramic storytelling, this film cries out to be seen in widescreen. Remember, though, that this western is over three quarters of a century dilapidated, so it shouldn’t arrive as a surprise that the audio at times is inaudible or muted.

A bit about the failed experiment. In 1929 Fox Studios introduced the Fox Grandeur 70 mm widescreen process to the film industry. But, former to 35 mm sized pictures, most theaters abet then simply didn’t have the capability to present 70 mm films, and it would’ve cost too great to convert equipment. Factor in the Astronomical Depression, and the widescreen format unprejudiced never stood a chance. THE Immense Waddle never really stood a chance. Making the film truly was a massive undertaking, as each scene had to be filmed twice, for the 70 mm camera and for the 35 mm camera. To construct it even more painstaking, different casts had to also shoot the movie (respectively, for the German, Italian, and Spanish markets) .

Imagine the stones on Raoul Walsh, to grasp a chance on a nobody like John Wayne, who wasn’t even really an actor at the time. And imagine how powerful credibility and prestige Walsh lost when THE Great Stir flopped. It was equally devastating for John Wayne, as he was exiled into nine years of drudgery in B-western features and serials. In 1939, STAGECOACH came along and finally catapulted him to stardom. But, really, THE Substantial Drag should’ve done the job.

There are two discs here for THE Gigantic Trudge. Disc 1 has the mighty vaunted Fox Grandeur 70mm Widescreen Version of the film, with audio commentary by Film Historian/Author Richard Schickel and these very decent featurettes: “The Creation of John Wayne” which covers John Wayne’s early life and how THE Tremendous Slump impacted his film career; “Raoul Walsh: A Man In His Time” (as a homely trivia, you learn how he lost his legal scrutinize) ; “The Enormous Vision: The Grandeur Process” and “The Making of The Grand Hotfoot” (both intelligent) ; and a photo gallery. Disc 2 has the Academy Aspect Ratio 35 mm Burly Frame version of The Tall Slouch. I must mention that the bonus features on the dvds of the other included films consist of theatrical trailers and brief promotional movie spots. Shabby.

Thirty years later, in 1960, John Wayne starred in NORTH TO ALASKA, a rugged and boisterous comedy-adventure about worship and the Alaskan gold run. Having struck it rich in Alaska, George Pratt (Stewart Granger) sends his best pal Sam McCord (Wayne) to Seattle to score Jenny, George’s French bride-to-be. However, when McCord finds out that Jenny is already married, he ends up in the Hen House, a house of ill-repute, to drink his blues away. There, he meets the magnificent soiled dove Michelle (nicknamed “Angel”) who happens to be French (you contemplate where this is going? ) . A misunderstanding then crops up. Although McCord proposes to Angel on George’s behalf, Angel believes that McCord is the intended husband. And she falls for him. How do you say “awkward” in French?

This is the type of cinema John Wayne did occasionally to expose the world he can discover comedy straight in the gawk. In the same lighthearted vein as Hatari!, McLintock! (Authentic Collector’s Edition), and Donovan’s Reef, NORTH TO ALASKA is splendid laughable, in a robust sort of intention. Certainly, it gives the cast a chance to let their hair down. The film is bookended by two all-out, knock-down brawls, with plenty of laughs in between. Pop idol Fabian, here to lure in the teenaged girls, does his Rio Bravo (Two-Disc Special Edition) Ricky Nelson thing, even managing to assure a tune. Very gracious movie, this, with the Duke at his comedic cantankerous best. Capucine is pleasing.

1969’s THE UNDEFEATED is a sprawling chronicle starring the Duke and Rock Hudson. Place in the backdrop of post-Civil War, honest retired Union Army Colonel John Henry Thomas (Wayne), battle-weary and broke, gathers what remains of his primitive troops and head west to round up and then sell wild horses. There, they race into James Langdon (Rock Hudson), a venerable Confederate Colonel who is enroute to Durango, Mexico with his men and their families to construct a unusual originate. Threatened by marauders and Mexican rebels, the two expeditions are forced into an uneasy alliance.

- Mrs. Langdon (as Thomas returns from a palaver with a bandit, whom he was forced to ruin) : “You went out there to talk. Why did you have to shoot the man? ”

- Thomas: “Conversation kind of dried up, ma’am.”

THE UNDEFEATED may be the third best film here, but I liked it. It’s interesting enough and a bit dismal but also laughable. It lays out several rousing action-packed moments, yet it’s more than your typical shoot-em-up. I expected THE UNDEFEATED to be more somber and contemplative, what with the subplot about the North and the South, post-war. There is a bittersweet undercurrent to the film, and specifically coming from the Rebel side, as borne out in early scenes of the film. Hudson excels in scenes where he has to show restrained arouse and dignity in the face of abject defeat. But the film also holds a surprisingly jovial tone. There are even two treasure stories going on, one an interracial romance, the other keen Wayne’s more measured wooing of a Confederate widow. John Wayne and Rock Hudson reveal off some marvelous buddy chemistry here, and provide some humorous moments. Quit tuned for the cheery 4th of July fisticuffs, and fans of the musty L.A. Rams should be on the lookout for Merlin Olson (”Miniature George”) and, in a larger role, Roman Gabriel (”Blue Boy”) . Meanwhile, Lee Meriwether (only the best Catwoman ever) has a meager role, but Ben Johnson, that ragged hand, is as honorable as ever.

The film I like least in this collection is THE COMANCHEROS, which released in 1961. The area has a Texas Ranger (Wayne) spicy a gambler (Stuart Whitman) who is wanted for abolish. The two later join forces to foil a corrupt band of weapon smugglers called the Comancheros. Simply set aside, this film is forgettable. John Wayne is his usual exact self, but Stuart Whitman is not proper and has no chemistry with Wayne. This is nasty, considering the amount of scenes these two have together. THE COMANCHEROS is subpar John Wayne stuff; I unprejudiced don’t dig it.

JOHN WAYNE - THE FOX WESTERNS is a no-brainer, a must for admirers of John Wayne and fans of noble westerns. And three out of four films ain’t awful. It’s quite engaging to gaze the Duke metamorphose from acting infanthood (1930) to cinematic dotage (1960-1969) . The acting chops may not have been there at the initiate, but that huge presence was palpable from the get-go. Rating these products is so subjective. This one, I contain, merits four or five stars. And since I have such fond memories of THE Vast Tear and NORTH TO ALASKA, and even of THE UNDEFEATED, I’m gonna tumble five stars on this bunch of oaters. These films may not be considered the Duke’s most classic stuff, but they’ll do, yessir, they’ll do. Here’s to you, Marion Morrison.

Since I peer all the questions seem to distress the logistics of the area, that is the main thing I will address in this review, since you would have to be a resident of another planet to not know the record tedious the series “Friends”. Suffice it to say it is a classic comical treatment of what I have always called the “post-college adolescent phase” of life, which is roughly the ten years immediately following college graduation as you strike out on your believe and try to catch your status in life. It is the time in life when you are likely to have the best health, the most freedom, the most disposable income if not necessarily the most total income, and the most fun if you are fortunate enough to have people to fraction it all with. This phase ends when you “resolve down” both career-wise and family-wise, and I always found Friends to track this time in life quite accurately and with both drama and substantial humor.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Friends - The Complete Series Collection! Click Here

As for logistics, this collection fits in a sturdy red box that’s less than a foot long. There are 40 DVDs containing 236 episodes that can be found inside. The Friends region honest has two pieces of the box that comes together. Flipping the top up exposes the guts of the area consisting of 6 books, with one for each Friend. Thus there are only 6 books to maintain the 10 seasons. Each book has a characterize of the Friend, a number (1-6), and the episodes you can procure in each case. The books flip initiate from the top, and each disc has its occupy pouch in the double-sided pages. Every disc has a different photo of the Friend, and they’re all inserted into the pouches so that the photo is visible as you flip through the book. The disc number and episode numbers are also visible. The contents of the discs are the same as the previous sets, but they have novel artwork.

Besides the packaging, there’s unprejudiced one thing to price for this release, that being the episode guide booklet. This 60 page booklet lists every episode with its synopsis and the disc you can earn it on. Of course, the bonus material is mentioned along with the disc it can be found on, and the bonus features include 25 documentaries. You’ll also procure the new treatment for the series written by David Crane and Marta Kauffman. The booklet, which is as wide as the box, can be found leisurely the DVD books.

As for cloak format, it’s fat cloak, which is what Friends was filmed in. The fat veil ratio is 4:3, which is the same as 1.33:1. You can narrate in wide veil and nick off parts of the frame to manufacture it fit a extinct 4:3 TV, which is what is done with pudgy mask editions of movies. However, you can’t add stuff to a frame that was recorded in 4:3 and effect it widescreen.

There’s very minute of value here for someone who already has the season 1-10 boxes, and the book with the episode information is impartial an upgraded version of the booklets that near with the season sets. If you don’t already beget the 10 seasons then this is an easy arrangement to choose the demonstrate since it is a lot cheaper than buying each status individually. It’s also nicer than the box site released last year, which was the existing 10 seasons in a mammoth box. If you determine to replace your existing sets then you’ll be tickled to know the status takes up exactly the same amount of shelf region.

I savor this present but I am returning this box status and decided to order the individual seasons separately for the following reasons:

1) Many of the DVDs are contemptible and skip even when they are not physically scratched. I tested this with multiple DVD players which have never given me problems before. If you check other reviews this quality control shriek is fair popular with the DVDs from this box spot. From what I can express the quality control on the current season sets is remarkable better.

2) Disc 28 was missing and I got two copies of Disc 29 instead.

3) The corner of the collector’s box was broken/damaged when i received it.

4) The discs are spread out through 6 scratch-prone cardboard-like sleeves for each character instead of by Season. Cute, but i don’t want to have to start up a damn episode guide and peruse up the episode number to figure out which season i’m about to peek, while worrying about scratching my DVDs when taking them in and out of the sleeves.

Stunning, astounding, informative and spectacular! Comes with 4 pairs of cardboard glasses. Do NOT exercise those (they’re OK, but not mammoth though!), Secure plastic ones instead! Better fit, better plan! Turn all your lights off, spy that DVD at night! It’ll recall your breath away! I really enjoyed it! Highly recommend!

I first saw this movie in IMAX 3D and was truly impressed with a really profitable storyline and astounding 3D effects. When I saw this movie was released on Blu-Ray in 3D I was hesitant thinking the 3D at home would be a joke. I was proven otherwise. Even on the comfort of my couch the 3D is extraordinary. In some ways, the group known as the Weather Underground (originally the Weathermen, an offshoot of Students for a Democratic Society) were more a symbol of 1960s radical idealism than a staunch revolutionary movement. Although they planted many bombs during a decade-long period, they never did anything that seriously threatened the government or power structure. Their goal, of course, was to spark a mass movement and inspire others to follow their example, but they remained essentially marginalized. The film, The Weather Underground does a trustworthy job at letting members of this group clarify their motives and, in some cases, misgivings about their foray into revolution. Directors Bill Siegel and Sam Green seem to be sympathetic with the movement, and most of the material is told from the point of conception of members. Leaders of the group Bernardine Dohrn and Bill Ayers have retained their radical views and are anything but apologetic about their past actions.

Most members of the group, despite the bombings, were committed to not harming people. This brings up a rather blatant omission in the film -Kathy Boudin, perhaps the group’s most noted member (for her participation in a robbery where a man was killed) is not mentioned at all. This was an miserable decision, apparently done to record the Weathermen as essentially nonviolent. To leave out such a well known chapter in the group’s history leaves a gaping hole. Unruffled, the parts that are included are engaging and give a glance into the idealism and naivete of these leftist radicals.

In retrospect, it is (at least from one perspective) a shrimp dim to peruse how runt long term enact the 1960s counterculture had on society. It seems that they were no match for the propaganda machine of the government and mass media. This film, of course, employs propaganda methods of its bear, as when brutal footage from the Vietnam war is shown. Propaganda it may be, but it does succor to almost trivialize the violence committed by the Weathermen compared with that perpetrated by the government it was opposing. The other side to this argument is that the fact that these radicals are level-headed alive and that a film like this has been allowed to be made is proof that America is not as oppressive as some would have us possess. Yet, this is only lawful to some extent; as the film explains, the FBI made a concerted (and mainly illegal) pain to ruin radical movements. There is also evidence that the government murdered members of the Unlit Panthers.

How you react to The Weather Underground depends on your political and cultural perspective. Regardless of this, this film is a compelling look of a radical group and gives us a scrutinize into their world.

At the demolish of the 1960’s, the various student youth movements took a consuming turn toward the far left. Frustrated by their failures to close America’s involvement in the Vietnam War, a growing minority of student activist leaders whole-heartedly embraced Marxist dogma and began agitating for the overthrow of the United States government. There were a few niggling problems to help to first, such as taking over the leadership of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), which they accomplished at the 1968 SDS national convention. An fascinating thing to remember about extremists regardless of their political leanings is worth mentioning at this point: radicals can’t earn along with one another. Views and positions choose on the rigidity of absolute, immutable truth, and anyone who opposes those views is the enemy–even if they’re on your side to launch with. Thus SDS almost immediately disintegrated into squabbling factions of increasing irrelevancy. The most necessary group to arise from the ashes of SDS were the Weathermen, an vulgar far left organization devoted to bringing about a Marxist revolution in the United States. The name of the group, as you probably know if you’re reading this, came from a Bob Dylan song.

The Weathermen, later known as the Weather Underground after the members went into hiding, utterly failed to accomplish any of their objectives. Their first mammoth action occurred in Chicago when the group launched their believe version of Kristalnacht, called “The Days of Rage.” The Weathermen and their associates roamed through the streets of Chicago, breaking windows, fighting with cops, and generally making a tremendous nuisance of themselves. Surprisingly, this dinky action failed to rouse the citizenry from their capitalist coma, a realization that seemed to shock this merry bunch of pranksters. Angered by this failure, the Weathermen decided to pick up bomb making as a hobby. What followed were years of targeted bombings against such diverse targets as corporations, government institutions, universities, and other structures serving the “enemies of the people.” The Weather Underground suffered setbacks, too, like the accidental detonation of a bomb that killed radicals Ted Gold, Diana Oughton, and Terry Robbins in a Original York City townhouse on March 6, 1970. Smooth, the revolution must go on, so over the next several years the bombs continued to explode across the country as the Weather Underground continued to release written or tape recorded “communiqués” justifying their violent actions. By the early 1980s most of the members turned themselves into the authorities, exhausted from their years of living in hiding.

Why two paragraphs of monotonous summary about an irrelevant political group long gone from the American landscape? Because this absorbing documentary, “The Weather Underground,” covers most of this material in limited detail through a collection of vintage news reports, documents, film footage, recreations, and interviews. Made a couple of years ago and aired widely on PBS, which is where I saw section of it and wanted more, the documentary revisits many of the essential players more than two decades after the group dissolved. We win to scrutinize and hear Billy Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, Note Rudd, Naomi Jaffe, David Gilbert, Brian Flanagan, and Laura Whitehorn reminisce about their days as revolutionary fighters battling for the soul of America. Moreover, interviews with conventional SDS leader Todd Gitlin, old-fashioned Murky Panther Kathleen Cleaver, and FBI agent Don Strickland provide a different point of belief on the activities of the Weather Underground. By listening to these people describe their experiences, we learn more about how furious radicals became over the slay of Unlit Panther leader Fred Hampton, about how the group helped Timothy Leary hurry from prison, and learn to marvel in apprehension at the massive comb over Impress Rudd sported as a young communist revolutionary.

It’s not too difficult to survey where the filmmakers’ loyalties lie regarding the activities of the Weather Underground. Although careful not to effect them explore too wintry, it’s fairly clear the presentation aims to demonstrate these characters as admirable figures. They placed a baseball bat in Billy Ayers’s hands as he strolled down memory lane remembering the “Days of Rage” fiasco. While we could write off this stunt as sensationalism, it’s more problematic to quiz the questions establish to the various members. Why did Kathy Boudin’s name never advance up in the film? Probably because Boudin, unlike many members we stare here, did slay people in the name of a revolutionary cause. In the early 1980s, she joined the Dusky Liberation Army and took fragment in an armored car robbery that resulted in the deaths of two police officers and a security guard. The ghost of Boudin is apparently a predicament the filmmakers wished to avoid, although I should credit them for interviewing David Gilbert, a man currently serving a life sentence for his involvement in the same crime. It honest seems most of the questions don’t dig too deeply into the questionable practices of the Weather revolution. Then again, maybe they don’t need to; several of the ragged members appear as though they’re having problems coming to terms with their past behavior. That’s a hopeful tag.

Although I’ve had rough words in the past about these people and their inappropriate actions, I had a tough time disliking them in the film. A few of them, primarily Ticket Rudd and Brian Flanagan, seem like people you could sit down with for a few hours and have an consuming conversation about any topic. The commentary track with Ayers and Dohrn is well worth a listen primarily for the realization that even stolid commies have a self-deprecating sense of humor. But you also view that several of these people aren’t quite ready to repudiate their outmoded positions. I reflect it was Laura Whitehorn who said she would do it all over again if given the chance, a belief that is hardly encouraging. Give this one a search for, though. It’s mesmerizing.
