IMDB rating: 7.80 Plot: While visiting the Earth at Night, a group of alien botanists is discovered and disturbed by an approaching human task force. Because of the more than hasty take-off, one of the visitors is left behind. The little alien finds himself all alone on a very strange planet. Fortunately, the extra-terrestrial soon finds a friend and emotional companion in 10-year-old Elliot, who discovered him looking for food in his family’s garden shed. While E.T. slowly gets acquainted with Elliot’s brother Michael, his sister Gertie as well as with Earth customs, members of the task force work day and night to track down the whereabouts of Earth’s first visitor from Outer Space. The wish to go home again is strong in E.T., and after being able to communicate with Elliot and the others, E.T. starts building an improvised device to send a message home for his folks to come and pick him up. But before long, E.T. gets seriously sick, and because of his special connection to Elliot, the young boy suffers, too. The situation gets critical when the task force finally intervenes. By then, all help may already be too late, and there’s no alien spaceship in sight. |

I think you got a pretty good taste in movies except 1. Star Wars Episode I does not deserve a placing and I can’t believe 101 Dalmatians, though a good film, got a placing while much better animated films like Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King got snubbed.
It wouldn’t be my list but you do have 8 on your list that I would add in mine as well.

Not bad, but I think I would eliminate Star Wars Episode 1 from your list, and maybe even 101 Dalmations. Then I’d add the original King Kong and It’s A Wonderful Life to the list.

No Raging Bull, On The The Waterfront, Dr Strange Love

Are you serious? I’m a classic film junkie and well, since you really want opinions, I’ll make and effort and I’ll try to be gentle.
The Ten Commandments, sure, a great film, but no where near that good in my view. Star Wars a little high to I think, and E.T.? Come on, The Color Purple is Spielberg’s best film by miles in my view. Titanic? Yea, I especially like the part where Billy Zane desides to chase after and shoot at Leo while running around a sinking ship( How bloody stupid was that part?.) A good film sure, but they went a little overboard on that part for one. It wouldn’t make my top 50 ever. Jurassic Park? I find that hard to fathom either and I’ll end this by saying, where are the Kubrick films? And why the hell would Phantom Menace even make your top 200?
The IMDB list below is not as bad, but still quite pathetic. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly 4th for instance. Huh? Unforgiven is a better film without doubt! And The Dark Knight being on there just kind of crushes the whole thing.

Just so you know. The Empire Strikes Back is widely regarded as being better than A New Hope & Return of the Jedi. And to have The Phantom Menace on your list is an abomination! That movie shouldn’t even be in the top 500. The rest of your list is ok at best with the exception of 101 Dalmatians.
