What is basic instinct of humans ? God ? or Atheism ?

Divinity is the core of our being.

Basic Instinct of returning to our source, the Divinity is present in every person.

Religions are forced upon us, not the original Divinity

I’d say it depends on the human.

God. All humans are oriented towards wanting God, because he is our creator and he loves us, and we desperately need Him and need to have a relationship with Him. Even scientists are discovering that our brains have a psychological need for God. God was really clever in designing us to the point where he even made our physical brains help us come to belief in Him.

The human brain has a hard time rationalizing that which it fears and doesn’t understand. So because we fear death, humans rationalized that there has to be something after it for them. From there they didn’t want EVERYONE going - so they came to the conclusion that only the "good ones" must go… and so on and so forth.

So the answer is the basic instinct of most humans would be to believe in "Something" paranormal

Karm khapao and moksha prapt karo thats the basic instinct all humans or Gods are living according to their style because of their karmas and the more they kill their karmas the near they are to moksha.

God.

Well both.

If the instinct were only god, why have so many hundreds, nay thousands, of gods disappeared as soon as people stopped believing in them, or as soon as the civilization that supported them disappeared.

Why is there a direct correlation between the rise of human knowledge and the decline of religion?

So I guess the answer is that the instinct for god is really related to how much a person or society understands the way the world actually works.

God was an explanation for how things were in the natural world (thunder, rain, aggression, etc) but as we learn the real reasons for these things, god becomes less and less necessary.

Beliefs are not instincts. Beliefs are learned things. Instincts are like hardwired and preprogrammed neurological responses.

Hard to tell.

You would have to experiment by isolating newborns until adulthood and evaluating how they react to reality and its mysteries.

I dont think it is instinct. I think it is something you learn and something you adapt to and it is very much shaped by everything around you. Depending on how compute it all, you believe there is a god or not (or a host of other variations).

We have evolved too diversely for such a sweeping statement to apply.

I think the desire to believe in something that comforts us is a more base instinct, so god probably.

Belief in god is not a basic instinct. It’s socially developed.

salam alikum
please change name
instincts are pre-placed Fitrah in our DNA, initial knowledge of Allah / God, and, right / wrong

Atheism. A person’s first thought is "me." We don’t know mystery or fear or humility until we are taught such things either through experience, observation, or being taught in the formal sense of the word.

I would say that the basic instinct of humans is God…atheism (and any other "-ism" you can think of) is a learned response to that instinct. Now I’ll concede that my perspective is based on my believe that God is our creator…as such, it makes sense to think that he would have created us with some ingrained knowledge of him and/or his purpose of creating us. However, I can justify my answer independently of that faith…it just takes a little more work *smile*…

If you think about it, the fact that something like atheism even exists suggests that everyone at some point in their life considers the question of whether or not they were created for a purpose…about whether a "higher power" of some sort is influencing, controlling, or merely evaluating their choices and their life. Atheism is merely a response to those questions just as the hundreds of religions that identify a particular deity and purpose are a response to those questions.

In effect, atheism’s answer to the question is that I determine my own purpose and that the most important evaluator of my choices and my life is me…but, doesn’t that perspective still reflect the basic instinct of "God"?…the basic desire to identify the ultimate source of power/control in your life…atheists just put themseves in the "god" role while everyone else puts someone or something else in this role.

Hi, "Praise be to Allah, who hath granted unto me in old age Ismail and Isaac: for truly my Lord is He, the Hearer of Prayer!
"O my Lord! make me one who establishes regular Prayer, and also (raise such) among my offspring O our Lord! and accept Thou my Prayer.
"O our Lord! cover (us) with Thy Forgiveness? me, my parents, and (all) Believers, on the Day that the Reckoning will be established!"

Think not that Allah doth not heed the deeds of those who do wrong. He but giveth them respite against a Day when the eyes will fixedly stare in horror?
They are running forward with necks outstretched their heads uplifted their gaze returning not towards them, and their hearts a (gaping) void.
