Saxophonist Edwin Daugherty Celebrates Release of Debut CD, “My Paradise”
The new CD from The Used titled, “Lies for the Liars” is a fantastic follow up to “In Love and Death”. From the first song, The Ripper, you can tell that they have made a few changes in their sound. They are using a few more effects, but overall, they still have the same Used sound that everyone loves. The songs are deeper, and more thought out, which I think people will either love, or shy away from.
The band is made up of Bert McCracken on vocals, Quinn Allman on guitar, Jeph Howard on Bass, and Branden Steineckert on drums. All of the members sound perfect individually, and together. A band from Utah known for rebelling against anything and everything from Utah come back with a great set of songs after their last CDs which had major success. Their first CD, “Maybe Memories”, has gone platinum, and their most recent one, “In Love and Death” has been certified TRIPLE Platinum. This creates a huge question for the band and all of the fans… Will they be able to live up to their past successes?
The CD has eleven songs on it, with the singles The Bird and the Worm and Liar Liar (Burn in Hell). While these singles are great songs, there are plenty of other single worthy songs such as Earthquake, With Me Tonight, Find A Way, and Smoother Me.
The song list on this CD are as followed:
The Ripper
Pretty Handsome Awkward
The Bird and the Worm
Earthquake
Hospital
Paralyzed
With Me Tonight
Wake The Dead
Find A Way
Liar Liar (Burn in Hell)
Smoother Me
The band continues the same path as their recent CDs, with heavily distorted guitars, and very well organized compositions. Continuing, the same emo/punk, rebellious heavy sound that they have always carried, the CD is sure to make all fans happy. There will be many people that will dislike the CD, but I think more people will like it than dislike it. They have a sound that any fan of metal, emo, punk, and alternative will be attracted to. The CD comes out on May 22nd, 2007, and if you are a fan of the Used, I suggest picking it up.
Overall, I give the new album a 7.0 out of 10. I have a feeling a few people will be a little disappointed with the CD, but fans will be overjoyed. I hope the review helped!
