Vampires are usually portrayed as sexy mysterious people, or as bloodthirsty monsters. In “Blood+,” you glean two for the effect of one.

And this modern vampire anime gets off to a solid initiate in the first volume — there’s plenty of gory, taut action scenes, as well as some mystery and insensible exposition. While it’s technically a spinoff of a movie, this series stands easily on its contain — lots of action, monsters, and gallons of vampiric blood.

Saya Otonashi is anemic, and she doesn’t remember anything about her life before she was adopted by a qualified customary, George, and his sons Kai and Riku. Other than that, she’s a perfectly normal Okinawa schoolgirl. Then a monster attacks her, one night at her high school.

She’s saved by a aesthetic, mysterious man carrying a cello case, who forces her to drink a small of his blood. She destroys the monster in a matter of seconds — unaware that her punky, overprotective brother Kai also saw the monster. Soon American military forces near to super up, and everything is hushes up.

And Saya’s confusion only grows when she finds that George is discussing her mysterious past with a man named David. She goes on a search for answers — both from the cellist, Haji, and from George. But then George is attached by one of the horrid, vampiric Chiropterans, and Saya finds that she may be the only one who can end it.

Technically “Blood+” is actually a spinoff from an older anime movie, “Blood: The Last Vampire.” But while that movie concentrated on action and monsters, the point to seems to be more enthusiastic in exploring a young vampire girl’s growing problems, and exploring this current vampire mythos. And it IS ravishing modern — it’s more like a disease than a supernatural unlife.

The first few episodes basically area up the rest of the series, introducing mysterious organizations, vendettas, and monsters that will accelerate you up into a tree and rip off your head. There are some warm’n'cuddly moments in the Otonashi family, but they’re outweighed by Saya’s obnoxious past, bloody slayings, and David’s organization. And the astounding thing is, there’s peaceful plenty of unanswered questions.

It also has really radiant animation, which is more realistic than many anime series have. Very sleek, gloomy, sharply-defined, and vaguely gothic in appearance, and given extra beauty by the cello melodies that Haji is always playing. The script is splendid satisfactory as well, although most of the best lines are stolen by Kai (”Time to have fun…. without YOU!”) .

Saya is a likable heroine at the originate — she’s an optimistic, ordinary schoolgirl who only has one exact jam (amnesia) . But we do find to survey some of her darker sides when she’s fighting, and Kari Wahlgren does an expedient job with both sides of Saya’s personality.

Most of the other characters aren’t explored yet, but George’s tragic past and Kai’s punky, protective attitude beget them seem very well-rounded. And though we don’t accept grand information about Haji, the cello-playing vampire is an bewitching character. Being voiced by Crispin Freeman doesn’t injure either.

The first volume of “Blood+” is a nice introduction to this gory, fresh action anime, with lots of vampires and buckets of blood. But don’t ogle it after gloomy.

Blood + is more than fair a gory vampire reveal. It shows a long history of two sisters, those who wait on and protect them and why they are trying to demolish each other. It also shows the struggling relationship between Saya and Kai. Kai knows that Saya is a Vampire like monster but peaceful says that she is calm his dinky sister and he will protect her no matter what. There are many underlieing stories combined in the siries than unbiased the main one. I would recomend this to everyone who likes Anime. It is excelently drawn, and very realistic. The go that came before it though, I would not recomend that you peek it. It does not cloak anything about the siries, fair shows what would be a two fragment episode, very poorly drawn and not life like at all. This sieries is Considerable Considerable Powerful Noteworthy, 1000 TIMES Worthy BETTER!

The final state of Lion Voltron episodes consists entirely of the additional programs produced in a partnership between World Events Productions and Toei Animation after the current GoLion-based shows ran out. Therefore, although the stories are mostly edifying, the describe quality falls far short of the high standard position by the previous DVD volumes. The visuals are often a bit fuzzy and dim, except for the inserted scenes from earlier shows, which are always keen and colorful. The backgrounds are grainy and the characters are not sad or highlighted. Some colors are nearly gloomy (stare the supposedly “Blue” Cat), while others are too pale (like Princess Allura’s formerly hot pink spacesuit) . Nevertheless, the series remains highly exciting, and even features a impress unusual villain by the name of Merla.

The 3-DVD Dusky Lion Collection consists of thirteen episodes, including involving adventures like these:

“Who’s Flying Blue Lion”: Prince Lotor makes a pact with the sadistic Largo–the one-eyed Barbarian King of the Rogue Galaxy–allowing the blue-skinned fiend to consume infinite hordes of green and yellow striped Spider Ships and Shark Fighters to bring the Planetary Alliance to its knees, begging for mercy. Amid his huge army of dusky droids, and with the ubiquitous Witch Haggar by his side, Lotor invades Galaxy Garrison, where the Voltron Force is hosting a conference of desperate galaxian leaders. He snappily takes some hostages, including Coran, and orders Allura to marry him…or else! Will the aesthetic Princess be forced to join the loathsome pointy-eared Prince in unholy matrimony?

“Enter Merla, Queen of Darkness”: When Zarkon convinces the chivalrous Stride–legendary pilot of the saber-toothed Tiger Fighter–that the guardians of Planet Arus are a threat to the galaxy, the undefeated state knight boards his winged cat-ship and zooms off to challenge Commander Keith and the Dim Lion in a duel of claws and swords. Shortly thereafter, the malevolent blue-lipped telepath, Merla, and her armada of combat-craving minions land at Castle Doom, where the cold-blooded vamp easily manipulates the unfavorable mind of the King in order to win Haggar’s best and baddest serpent-faced Robeast. With the green behemoth in her possession, the dastardly Queen heads for Arus with her starfleet, intending to conquer both Fling and the gallant Voltron Force.

“A Ghost of a Chance”: As her pet vulture watches the proceedings from his perch on her left shoulder, the cruel Queen Merla demonstrates her diabolical Cosmotron contrivance on the doubting Cossack, rapid reducing the insolent horn-headed skeptic to a writhing lump of agony. Later, on Planet Arus, a mysterious woman in purple tells the residents of the Valley of Zohar that the “Palm of Venus” dictates that proper King Alfor will soon rise from the tiring, to reclaim his pleasing golden shield. When the radiant Allura learns of the rumored return of her beloved slow father, she journeys to the eerie Rainbow Cave to spy his statue, only to be trapped within the rocky cavern by a massive boulder!

“To Sooth the Savage Robeast”: Inside her humble home amidst the exquisite flowers and rolling hills of Arus, a heartbroken young beekeeper with tear-streaked cheeks strums her harp and remembers her long lost admire, Rowe, who was taken by ultra-droids during one of Zarkon’s savage raids. These days, Rowe is breaking rocks beneath the granite towers of Doom, where he feels the sting of the robot guards’ whips on a regular basis. Ironically, the weary captive’s emancipation finally comes at the clawed hands of the devious Queen Merla. However, Rowe’s long-awaited release from enslavement depends upon one condition: Merla will return the prisoner to the arms of his sobbing sweetheart only if he agrees not to interfere while the pale, pink-haired Queen hoodwinks the unsuspecting harpist into delivering a pitcher of poison to Keith at the Castle of Lions.

“With Friends Like You”: The sharp-toothed Count Zane lands on Arus in a stolen Skull Tank after escaping the oppressive forces of Doom, who have recently conquered his shimmering blue home world, Philos. Once every fifty-two years, Philos’ strange elliptical orbit brings it dangerously end to Planet Arus, and that fateful hour is rapid approaching. Zane informs the suspicious Voltron Force that the lovesick Prince Lotor is now on the royal Peak of Dargon building a temple dedicated to the object of his affection, Princess Allura. The amorous tyrant has also constructed a series of anti-lazon missile launchers, which he intends to employ to evaporate the stately Castle of Lions as soon as the Philos Comet nears the serene Arusian sphere!

Volume Five’s extras include a video laughable book, a montage of unused Season 3 scenes, and a voiceless “lost episode.” There’s also a “History of WEP” featurette with Ted Koplar. The remaining features assist to promote the upcoming DVD releases of Vehicle Voltron shows and unedited Japanese GoLion shows. You’ll want to complete your Lion tin collection first though, `cause as you know, you need all five Lions to execute Voltron!

I received dvd collection in about five days and there was no damages. I bask in the service and the expeditiously process. I don’t know how many times I can say thank you, but thank you so grand.

I have been writing to this company for years asking them to hold up this property again and they finally did! So you can thank me for this juicy bit of Samurai Cinema. These films are incredible and I would recommend them for anybody (over the age of 18) who loves “Zatoichi” or any other Samurai film or series such as “Lone Wolf and Cub.” Purposeful plots and fun fight scenes splatter across the camouflage in these first four films of Nemuri Kyoshiro, the Son of the Gloomy Mass, as he roams the streets of Edo or the countryside of fuedal Japan. Give these films a try and you wont be disappointed, fail to do so and you may be disemboweled…

I contain the laser disc versions of episodes 1-4 from Animeigo so am eagerly awaiting the ticket going down to ‘upgrade’ my collection of these mountainous films into DVD format. Raizo’s character in this series unbiased doesn’t operate with a consistently apt deck - he is erratic (and thus the films are always surprising. Titanic character.) The middle period of these “Son of Gloomy Mass” films (ep 5-8) have better production values than these four and the series gets more psychedelically baroque as it moves on (not to detriment.) I catch myself not really responding fully to the series (which I eye repeatedly) until episode three. The terrible princess in film three is huge, and the somewhat slower/dark (by that I mean not very shining prints) episodes 1 & 2 are left slack. From this point on the series becomes consistently exceptional, albeit a bit episodic with arbitrary plotting at times. The Shadowy Mass films have replaced the Lone Wolf and Cub flics (the six films) as my current all-time chambarra fix.

Steve McQueen was known for many things– action films, speedy cars, motorcycles, a charismatic presence (on veil and off), and his correct “tough guy” persona. But with this film, another description moves to the top of that list: Actor. Anyone who doubts what a gargantuan actor McQueen was need only glance this film, because his performance here as Jake Holman is simply as safe as it gets. “The Sand Pebbles, ” directed by Robert Wise, is the account of Holman, a sailor assigned to the U.S. Gunboat, “San Pablo,” stationed on the Yangtze River in China in 1926 (the sailors aboard are known as “sand pebbles”) . It’s famous function is to patrol the river and thereby keep an American presence in China, a country currently experiencing a period of political unrest and impending upheaval. It’s a original assignment for Holman, and it suits him objective fine; his job is to preserve the ship’s engines up and running, and because of the size of the ship, he’s the only engineer– it’s honest Jake and his engine. And that’s the contrivance he likes it. Holman is a loner by nature, and something of an iconoclast. At one point, when he is asked his idea of American Foreign Policy and their presence in China, he simply says, “I don’t mess with it. It’s all look-see-pidgin, somethin’ for the officers.”

Eventually, however, Holman is nevertheless drawn into the conflict through a series of events that impact him beyond all personal resistance, the most distinguished being when American lives are threatened throughout China, and Holman and a landing party are sent ashore to protect and escort some missionaries assist to the safety of the San Pablo. But at the mission, Holman discovers a procedure of life, the likes of which he’s never known, and for the first time ever, he realizes a sense of belonging. And he likes it. For Holman, however, it may be too late; the political turmoil throughout the country has assign the lives of everyone at the mission in pain, including a young missionary named Shirley Eckert (Candice Bergen), with whom Holman has made a connection he simply cannot dispel; for in Shirley, he discerns an innocence and a goodness that compels him, and in which he finds a welcome sense of fulfillment. So what began as a routine mission becomes a salient point in Holman’s life, and he is faced with the most famous decision he’s ever had to compose.

This is the one for which McQueen should have won an Oscar. As Holman, he demonstrates an emotional range and depth that runs the gamut from almost boyish naivete to a world weary obsolete of life who has seen and heard it all. Utterly convincing, he can say more with a shrimp incline of his head, a stupid blink or shifting of his eyes than most actors could say with reams of dialogue at their disposal. He communicates with so remarkable more than words, and there’s meaning in everything he says and does– he never wastes a line or a single moment. What he does with this role is magnificent; it’s the definitive McQueen performance. His Holman is the personification of the loner, and in creating him he delivers something few actors could ever equal: He’s tough, convincing and charming– all at the same time. And he should’ve taken home The Statue for it.

As Collins, the Captain of the San Pablo, Richard Crenna gives one of his finest performances, as well, and it cemented his transition from television actor to a career on the spacious cloak. After this, there was no going attend. His portrayal of the somber, introspective Captain is riveting, and in him you readily witness Collins’ sense of duty and honor, as well as his overwhelming sense of futility and failure. And the urgency with which he grasps his chance for redemption, even in the face of insurmountable odds, is entirely believable as it is consistent with the character he has created.

The superlative supporting cast includes Richard Attenborough (Frenchy), Emmanuelle Arsan (Maily), Mako (Po-han), Larry Gates (Jameson), Charles Robinson (Bordelles), Simon Oakland (Stawski), Ford Rainey (Harris), Joe Turkel (Bronson) and Gavin MacLeod (Crosley) . A grand drama, extremely well crafted and presented by Wise, “The Sand Pebbles” is a tremendous and memorable film that will forever stand as the pinnacle of McQueen’s successful career. Jake Holman is a character you will never forget, because there is something of him– that wistful longing to belong, perhaps– in all of us. A timeless classic among classics, this is one of the greatest motion pictures of all time, and is by definition, the magic of the movies.

This 1966 film is a spacious budget adaptation of the 1962 fresh by Richard McKenna. Directed by Robert Wise, it gleaned nine academy award nominations. I remember reading the book a very long time ago, and remember it as an adventure myth. But by watching this DVD, I recognize now that it is grand more. And I also gaze how it relates to what is happening in the world today.

The setting is China in 1926. Violent conflicts were everywhere. Warlords were fighting each other, and the Nationalist leader Chang Kai-Shek was gaining power. In addition, the Communists were fighting against the Nationalists. Because the U.S. had interests there, they had a few Navy gunboats going up and down the river. They weren’t supposed to do anything - unbiased be a demonstrate a force. But the Chinese, from all the different factions, wanted the Americans out. “Go Home Foreigners” was their battle yell. The Americans knew that at any moment an international incident could erupt. Sound familiar?

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Sand Pebbles! Click Here

Steve McQueen, in the best performance of his career, is cast as a Navy machinist on the gunboat, which was nicknamed the “Sand Pebbles”. When he joins the crew, he’s surprised to peep that the “Coolies” do all the hard work - everything from cooking to cutting hair to running the engine. He opposes this as he wants to hasten the engine himself, and after some conflict, and an accidental death, he befriends one of the Coolies, and teaches him how to accelerate the boat. Later, there are violent consequences.

There is tension throughout between McQueen and the crew for many reasons. And we soon know who the respectable guys and the awful guys are. Richard Attenborough plays a obedient guy. He falls in admire with a young Chinese woman in bondage to the local house of pleasure. Another favorable guy is the Captain of the ship, played by Richard Crenna. He believes in ideals and is positive to act with valor even though he has to develop some hard choices. Steve McQueen is the ultimate estimable guy though. He acts on instinct and every go is from the heart.

Then there’s the crew who treat the Coolies badly and fight against every improvement that McQueen wants to implement. They also are willing to almost cause a mutiny when an incident occurs in which the Chinese call for McQueen’s blood. We also peep the naivety of the missionaries, one of whom is Candice Bergen, who judge that by declaring themselves “stateless persons” the Chinese will not gape them as Americans. The film is a series of battles. Some of the battles are with guns. Others are suitable ones. Together they get a titanic mosaic of high adventure coupled with questions of intervention. There are no easy answers.

The DVD has several features by Robert Wise in which he discusses the making of the film. However, to my disappointment, they are all in audio only. We hear his advise superimposed over a static scene or the logo from the film. After all the high adventure of the film, I was bored by these and didn’t scrutinize them.

However, the film stands alone on its absorb. It’s almost three hours long, but yet every moment is action packed with complex interweaving stories. There isn’t one tedious fraction and all of the acting is colossal. I loved it. I therefore give it an extremely high recommendation. Not to be missed.

There aren’t too many productions from television that one can call “noble,” but Ken Burns’ The Civil War qualifies. Burns uses photographs, music, speech, maps and historical context to tell the story of the second most formative event in the nation’s history. And since in those days people wrote…diaries, letters, journals…there is the written record not just of the great leaders, the politicians and generals, but of the wives and sweethearts, the nurses and doctors, newspaper editors and farmers. Most of all there are the words of the soldiers. Burns shows the importance and the sweep of the war, but in part he does it through the lives of average people caught up in events they may not have completely comprehended, but which they believed in.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Civil War: A Film by Ken Burns! Click Here

If the words themselves have power, so do the voices. Burns recruited great voices, some actors, some not, to speak the words, distinctive voices that give great resonance to what we see. Julie Harris as Mary Chestnut, Charlie McDowell, a Virginia reporter, as Sam Watkins, Arthur Miller as William Sherman, Jason Robards as Grant, Studs Terkel as Benjamin Butler, Sam Waterston as Lincoln, and many others. He has David McCullough as the narrator. McCullough, an outstanding historian and writer, does a wonderful job. Burns also uses a number of historians to underline key points. Foremost, in my view, is Shelby Foote. Foote is the author of the epic three-volume Civil War. With his Southern accent, common sense and soft irony, he’s a fascinating raconteur.

The program is never dry or dull. It is gripping and emotional. Both sides felt they were fighting for a pure cause. What is particularly touching is that, as a people, we had not yet lost much of the capacity for simple, unadorned, unembarrassed feelings, whether it be patriotism for one’s country or love for one’s wife. I challenge anyone to read this letter from Sullivan Ballou, a 32-year-old soldier in the Union Army, to his 24-year-old wife, and not sit stunned with emotion. Ballou was killed in the first battle of Bull Run a week later.

Camp Clark, Washington

My very dear Sarah:

The indications are very strong that we shall move in a few days-perhaps tomorrow. Lest I should not be able to write again, I feel impelled to write a few lines that may fall under your eye when I shall be no more . . .

I have no misgivings about, or lack of confidence in the cause in which I am engaged, and my courage does not halt or falter. I know how strongly American Civilization now leans on the triumph of the Government and how great a debt we owe to those who went before us through the blood and sufferings of the Revolution. And I am willing-perfectly willing-to lay down all my joys in this life, to help maintain this Government, and to pay that debt . . .

Sarah my love for you is deathless, it seems to bind me with mighty cables that nothing but Omnipotence could break; and yet my love of Country comes over me like a strong wind and bears me unresistibly on with all these chains to the battle field.

The memories of the blissful moments I have spent with you come creeping over me, and I feel most gratified to God and to you that I have enjoyed them for so long. And hard it is for me to give them up and burn to ashes the hopes of future years, when, God willing, we might still have lived and loved together, and seen our sons grown up to honorable manhood, around us. I have, I know, but few and small claims upon Divine Providence, but something whispers to me-perhaps it is the wafted prayer of my little Edgar, that I shall return to my loved ones unharmed. If I do not my dear Sarah, never forget how much I love you, and when my last breath escapes me on the battle field, it will whisper your name. Forgive my many faults and the many pains I have caused you. How thoughtless and foolish I have often times been! How gladly would I wash out with my tears every little spot upon your happiness . . .

But, O Sarah! If the dead can come back to this earth and flit unseen around those they loved, I shall always be near you; in the gladdest days and in the darkest nights . . . always, always, and if there be a soft breeze upon your cheek, it shall be my breath, as the cool air fans your throbbing temple, it shall be my spirit passing by. Sarah do not mourn me dead; think I am gone and wait for thee, for we shall meet again . . .

————–

The program flows over 11 hours on five discs. In addition to the documentary, the discs are stuffed with background information…maps, documents, biographies and additional interviews. This is a superb production and is worth every penny.

Ken Burns has established himself as one of the greats in terms of historical documentaries. The Civil War is Mr. Burns’ greatest work. The attention to detail brings the history to life. Mr. Burns does an excellent job of bringing humanity to the tragic time in America. With the use of solder’s and family letters it is evident what a difficult time it was to be an American. Originally aired on PBS in September of 1990, nearly fifteen years later the series remains the ultimate narrative about the United States darkest time.

The series is finally released on DVD. While the price is a little high the amazing quality of the series makes the cost very reasonable. Ken Burns’ Civil War is required for any Civil War historian’s collection. The series is also a great way for those wishing to learn more about the Civil War. I would recommend this to anyone that loves historical documentaries. It does not get any better than The Civil War - A Film by Ken Burns.

Because it is based off of the Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Carve and the

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle video games for nintendo gamecube.

This is probably the best US Sonic X release aside from the Metarex series. Covering Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 for the Dreamcast it stays beautiful lawful to the games aside from the added characters so its tremendous if you’re a fan. The fresh Japanese anime is obviously better due to the inclusion of “Live and Learn” (the latter game’s theme), but this’ll do until 4Kids releases an uncut, subtitled version like they’re working at on Youtube (abet the 4Kids channel on Youtube!) . Only thing that ticked me off a bit was the disc art. Shadow on disc 1 (Chaos Saga) and Eggman on disc 2 (Shadow Saga), switching main antagonists could be confusing. Season 5 is a very interesting season to review. Many people have mixed feelings about it. Some say its the best and some say it is the downfall of Charmed. I somewhat agree with both sides, as my opinion is the first half is great up unitl the point where they vanquish Cole and shift into baby mode. Although some of the baby episodes are good, the show definately changed after the birth of Wyatt. This season was pretty light hearted with many baby-centric episodes but this season does have its dark points. Highlights include: A Witch’s Tail, Sam I Am, Centennial Charmed, The Day The Magic Died, and Oh My Goddess.

6. The Eyes Have It - The Charmed Ones encounter a gypsy curse and aid their friend Eva to show her the way of magic.

7. Sympathy For The Demon - Barbas is back to wreck some havok on the charmed ones.

8. A Witch In Time - Phoebe must constantly save her boyfriend from dying and if she doesn’t stop, she will die.

15. The Day The Magic Died - When the whole magical community shuts down, something big is in the making.

16. Baby’s First Demon - 2 Demons are after Baby Wyatt and the sisters are surprised by some of his own powers.

17. Lucky Charmed - Leprachauns are in town and being killed.

18. Cat House - Piper and Leo have marriage counseling and Phoebe and Paige relive some of the past events of the show.

19. Nymphs Just Wanna Have Fun - Paige gets turned into a nymph.

20. Sense and Sense Ability - The girls have a curse put on them with the famous “Hear no evil, see no evil, and speak no evil”

21. Necromancing The Stone - Grams is back and confronted by an old lover.

22. Oh My Goddess Part 1 - The Titans are released and out for vengeance against the elders.

23. Oh My Goddess Part 2 - The sisters, now greek goddesses, are seduced by their powers.

Although this season had its fair share of ups and downs, it is still worth purchasing. Many changes to the show happened in this season, making it worth the money.

Well, we had a character change for series 4, and we get another for the 100th episode* this season. Yep we bid a fond farewell to Cole : ( But there will be a tiny new cast member - this season sees the birth of Piper and Leo’s baby.

Season 5 stills retains it’s sense of realism with the added drama and wit that made CHARMED a huge success, but for me this series lost that special something that made it a must watch programme, though it picks it up as it nears the end.
